Isabel Ramirez is a second-generation coffee producer in Concepción Huista, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, who took over her family’s farm, Q’antxabina, after her husband emigrated to the U.S. due to financial hardship.
Named after the native Guachipilín tree, which also serves as shade for her coffee plants, the farm now thrives under Isabel’s leadership. A member of the women’s collective Jovemcafe, Isabel is deeply committed to community-led development, contributing to sustainable projects like a henhouse and a tree nursery. She manages 1.5 hectares at 1700–1750 meters, producing Caturra and Bourbon varieties with great care, including selective picking and traditional processing.
“For me, it is important to provide new working opportunities for the people on my farm as well as give a better life for my children,” she says—reflecting her passion for both quality coffee and community well-being.
